A huge welcome
Today I met various members of Jose's family and community, including the deputy head teacher with whom I have been in touch. We planned our shopping trip, the presentation of football kit and the activities I will do with the children. There is much gratitude for the generosity of all those kind friends, family and organisations who have supported. There is so much need in the school, because teachers have no equipment provided, so everything is purchased from their limited salary. How different from the UK. And noone else so far has responded to their pleas for help except us.
On Wednesday we will leave at 6am to go to the mainland for our shopping trip to buy school uniforms.
We were Jose's first guests to eat at Dreamland Tours, and we were professionally served a tasty meal that we had chosen beforehand. The restaurant is situated on the lakeside with tremendous views. It was a great setting to hatch our plans.
Today's other feature was the delivery of the moped, almost new, but not looking so good after I tipped it onto the gravel! Expect I've lost my deposit but had factored that into the cost. Jose and his brother Jesus have accompanied me on my journeys today to make sure I am ok. A bit more practice needed and extreme care on the gravel side roads. It's a totally different experience with negotiation of various animals, and certainly seems wise to pull over when you hear a large bus or lorry thundering up behind. But tonight I returned in the dark, adding to the challenges. I am wearing knee pads and a reinforced jacket in addition to my helmet, as recommended by Ridesure which will have helped protect me.

With cold showers and no hairstyling equipment, helmet hair is standard!
