Ometepe Project To donate Ometepe project

On Saturday, I had another day off having had an invite to lunch with a local family. This was a more comfortable home with an indoor kitchen, an enclosed verandah and even a western style toilet, but it wasn't connected to the mains, so a bucket of water sufficed. Soap is dispensed directly to your hands, I imagine a commodity to be used with care. I think the same is used for washing. The family shared the educational achievements of the family, the father is a farmer and the mother a teacher at Las Pilas, so shared a lot of information about the school, and I was able to tell her too,  about the project. All of these experiences contribute to my knowledge of the community and schools.

Sunday morning was the day for distribution of uniform to Rafaela Herrera and the stationery to the teachers. It was the day before term started. Would teachers appear on Sunday here I ask myself, and would parents come to school bearing gifts because someone was buying their child's school uniform?

Hemer, the new head outlined the project to the teachers, I filled in on how it had come about, Jose's role and the voluntary nature of our work. The teachers were informed that the internet was available for their work and that other people could also have limited access for particular needs. This was well received as were the bags of equipment. I received a lot of blessings.

Then we moved to another classroom where the parents were waiting. Hemer told them too about the project and also about the great needs of the school, the building and equipment. At the end they were asked to come tomorrow to clean. I talked about the project and what I had done last year, one parent commented on how lovely it was for the children to do sewing and art.  I definitely need more time if I am going to do anything more! Or I need to bring someone with me!

We distributed uniform to around 40 grateful families, and in return I gathered a box full of fruit, and so many hugs I couldn't believe it.

With Jose and Hemer.
After lunch With Marvin and Sylvia, and soup made by Martin , we all went ziplining,  using a ' local taxi service.

After a pretty steep hike up the mountain, an exciting time was had by all.
