Another good day's work.

On Wednesday we collected all the boxes from Marvin's house and took them to Santa Teresa. There were a few hiccups with the timings, but eventually everyone was gathered and the boxes, with Jordy accompanying us and Fanor once more our driver. We arrived at Santa Teresa and were warmly greeted. The equipment was delivered, staff were gathered and more speeches given. Jose was really good, talking a lot about caring for the equipment and the cost of maintenance.  The headteacher said this had been her dream and now it had come true. The speaker will be used for their cultural activities and the computer for making teachers' work easier, for preparing lessons and to access information for pupils. We purchased a Bluetooth device that enables them to connect to their mobile phone, as we cannot commit to installing Wi-Fi. Running repairs

On Friday, I had a relaxing morning arriving in Urbaite at lunchtime. I will miss my daily wanders along the beach. It has unwound me very well. In the afternoon, after lunch with Marvin and Sylvia, I went to the school accompanied by Lou, Jose's sister. They don't like to leave me to walk on my own. Besides I needed to hand over funds to pay the carpenter over the weekend. The table was nearly ready on Saturday for Sunday delivery. This is for Santa Teresa school for their computers and has been completely hand made by a local craftsman. I am pleased we have given work to local people, shops and drivers, thus contributing to incomes. I have also done this with my personal needs. We arrived at the school and had to wait some time for Jefferson to arrive, he did an installation of the laptops I had delivered, an overhaul of what they had, plus a donated desktop, therefore giving the school a little ICT suite. January 2025 update

 And so the Ometepe project continues after eight year.  I had many interesting experiences visiting until the pandemic.  Many things have changed here but even more in Ometepe.  The Nicaraguan government have chosen their political allies which means that many NGOs and charitable groups no longer operate there.  The Peace and Hope Trust has contacts from SIFT who have a presence and they also have individuals who go to visit and do some work there, but this is on a lower scale than before. Our project continues because of our direct contact with local people, who are prepared to work on our behalf. There had to be a change of personnel organising the sourcing of goods and distributing it.  This rose after some problems in our contact's family.  The son Jordy has left home to live in Managua with his girlfriend and now has a good job, which is great after we supported him through university.  Jordy's father Marvin seems to be little evident in the...
