The grand uniform sort out!

Yesterday was the day of uniform sorting. I have to say I was dreading it as it had been a difficult task every time, sorting the lists and sizes to each child and bagging them up. This time we have twice as many. I had tried unsuccessfully to get a system like Peace and Hope where the local shop ships them in and the parents queue up at the shop and sign for what they receive. However Marvin had ensured we had a clear list with sizes from each school.

When Marvin suggested they came with lunch and we started after that I was even more anxious about completing the task. But we managed.  Jordy and Marvin arrived with cool boxes (Sylvia had won these in a lottery) with lunch and Jose and Sylvia arrived by  bus. Hemer the headteacher was unable to get there but I'm not sure anyone else would have fitted in my room!

We retrieved the bags and boxes from under the bed and set about working out a system. I decided to write up the labels ( I had brought string and luggage labels from the UK, I didn't want plastic bags used), so school by school I wrote the names and on the reverse the sizes of the shirt, trousers/ skirt, and t shirt. I have to say I did make a couple of errors, transposing lines, and putting falda and not pantalon for a couple of boys, thus at the end finding we had insufficient skirts and too many trousers! But we were able to check and put right. I am sure if we could have got all the information on a spreadsheet, we could have printed out the labels. However I am pretty sure no suitable kit would be available anywhere near here, i woukd have had to have done it in the UK.

So I wrote, Sylvia and Marvin gathered uniforms and Jose and Jordy tied them in sets and repacked and labelled the boxes. We had a coffee break mid afternoon when the receptionist kindly made refreshments, and when it was all finished the young man who does the late shift came and took photos.  Finally a phone call to Oscar the hotel owner, and delivery to the school is arranged for later today. A great exercise in team work and even better, the responsibility was taken by the local people. So if including get here, I know they would and could do it.

Job accomplished!

I was pretty tired by this time but they had to get home and there was no bus for a while so it was to be a walk or a 'ride if someone stopped for them.  I had had a relaxed morning walking around the locality and a visit to the local clinic. I wanted to top up my paracetomol, and the local pharmacy doesnt seem to be open. I managed to buy ibuprofen but they are 600g so when I checked on the internet, I concluded a half a tablet would be sufficient.

This morning I've breakfasted on the terrace, a mixture of my oats, seeds and dried coconut milk to bring some variety to my diet, and papaya, plus scrambled eggs, which I had with savoury biscuits as I decided on a break from Gallo pinto today (rice and beans).  My diet contains quite a lot if carbs, always rice, sometimes with potatoes, sometimes spaghetti. There is always protein, chicken, fish or cheese, and vegetables are cucumber, beetroot, carrots, and I think it's called achiote, a bit like marrow. I think I'll make Saturday a treat day for breakfast and go to the hotel along the road. I had pancakes there last weekend.  This weekend I'll be in Granada so that will be different.   If I need anything else, I have miso soup packs, tuna, i can buy bread sometimes and dry biscuits and I have my dehydrated milk and fruits for a smoothie. I'll have a look round Granada to see if there's anything else I can come back with!

A relaxed start to the day, being collected at 10.30. I keep thinking I should be doing other things, and whilst I brought the laptop, I feel disinclined as yet to be any busier!
